Today's post is from Derek Vreeland, whose taste in music is off the charts incredible. You can discover more of Derek at derekvreeland.com. Here's what he says about Rev. Jimmie Bratcher:
I am looking forward to hearing Jimmie Bratcher on Sunday night at Imagine Eleven. Why do you ask? Because Jimmie is a blues-man. I am no music aficionado. I cannot tell you in precise terms why I like one band over another or why I prefer the kind of music I like. I do know a few things though. I know that blues is music that comes from the soul. It may not be the most sophisticated music or the most technical to play ( I can even play 12 bar blues on guitar!), but what makes a great blues artist is when they play from the heart. This is why I love the Rev. Jimmie Bratcher. The music he plays (which extends past the blues into rock and even a little country from time to time) comes from the heart of a man who has seen troubled days. Jimmie's story (every blues player has a story) is one of brokenness and isolation turned into to wholeness and love. God is a work in the man! And this work comes out in his music. Yeah he doesn't say "Jesus" 1,000 times in his songs, but Jesus rules Jimmie's heart and reverberates through every strum of his guitar and every note sung from his lips. He is a talented guitar player and every time I have gone to his show I walk away knowing I have experienced something. Most of all Jimmie is a blues-man with a story to tell. Hopefully I'll see you at the show. Sunday night. 6:30 PM. 7th & Felix. Downtown St. Joe.
