He served with the 81st U.S. Army Band, and Yeager has taught at Youngstown State University, Westminster Colleges as well as Eastern Kentucky University before coming to Missouri Western. Mr. Yeager's performance experience includes location and road-work with Ralph Martieri, Ralph Flannagan, Buddy Morrow, Les and Larry Elgart, and Stan Kenton. Yeager has done back-up work for Jerry Vale, Maureen McGovern, Shari Lewis, Julie Andrews, Jim Nabors, Bobby Rydell, Bobby "Blue" Bland, and Wilson Pickett. He has recording experience in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Nashville, Kansas City and St. Joseph. Yeager has appeared as a soloist on clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, and flute with various bands, jazz ensembles, and orchestras in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Eric was born in Saint Joseph and has lived in St. Joseph all his life. He became the Music Pastor at Word of Life Church in the fall of 1991 and considers it an honor to lead the congregation in music that worships Jesus the King. His favorite music is Jazz. Real jazz. He feels there’s a power in the spontaneous creative process that is so central to jazz. He feels that any style of music can be used to worship the King. So when he says jazz is his favorite music, he is not saying it supersedes traditional forms of worship in any way. When he plays jazz trumpet, he believes he is worshiping the greatest creative power in the universe that is now resident in me – he’s worshiping THE CREATOR. For all lovers of music, come out and enjoy a great night! Sunday August 4 will feature a great mash-up of Jazz and Classical music, featuring performers from Northwest Missouri. To open the night, our classical set will feature the talented team from First Presbyterian Church in St. Joe. We'll close out the evening with a cool set from the St. Joseph Jazz All-stars, a great sextet featuring Saxophonist Richard Yeager, Trumpeter Eric Stark, and several other gifted jazz musicians from Northwest Missouri. It's hard to believe that summer is quickly coming to a close. There are only two (2) shows left, and you won't want to miss either one! Imagine Eleven presents an evening of praise with the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and Bell Chimes followed by Contemporary Jazz by the St. Joseph Jazz All Stars this Sunday, August 4th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Felix Square, 7th and Felix. Bring your youth group. Don't miss it! Today's post is from Derek Vreeland, whose taste in music is off the charts incredible. You can discover more of Derek at derekvreeland.com. Here's what he says about Rev. Jimmie Bratcher:
I am looking forward to hearing Jimmie Bratcher on Sunday night at Imagine Eleven. Why do you ask? Because Jimmie is a blues-man. I am no music aficionado. I cannot tell you in precise terms why I like one band over another or why I prefer the kind of music I like. I do know a few things though. I know that blues is music that comes from the soul. It may not be the most sophisticated music or the most technical to play ( I can even play 12 bar blues on guitar!), but what makes a great blues artist is when they play from the heart. This is why I love the Rev. Jimmie Bratcher. The music he plays (which extends past the blues into rock and even a little country from time to time) comes from the heart of a man who has seen troubled days. Jimmie's story (every blues player has a story) is one of brokenness and isolation turned into to wholeness and love. God is a work in the man! And this work comes out in his music. Yeah he doesn't say "Jesus" 1,000 times in his songs, but Jesus rules Jimmie's heart and reverberates through every strum of his guitar and every note sung from his lips. He is a talented guitar player and every time I have gone to his show I walk away knowing I have experienced something. Most of all Jimmie is a blues-man with a story to tell. Hopefully I'll see you at the show. Sunday night. 6:30 PM. 7th & Felix. Downtown St. Joe. The rain will not stop us!!! If it is raining, we will be at Francis Street First United Methodist Church, 110 N 12th Street, St. Joseph, MO 64501. https://maps.google.com/?cid=1340068540864396910&q=Francis+Street+First+United+Methodist+Church&hl=en&gl=us An interview with Ehrich Eberstark, founder of Hannah and the Trailblazers IE: How long have you guys been making music together?
EE: We’ve been together 21 years now. I started the band in ’92,right after I quit the military service. IE: What's your sound like? EE: We’re known for a touch of that Mississippi River, New Orleans vibe, and our Afro-Caribbean side as well. The sound of the Mississippi Delta blues is a big influence, as well as the horn arrangements of the big band leader Sid Karnowski. We also favor a new, up-tempo, funky rhythm and blues. Perhaps this is due to the influence of recordings of American artists that were played so much in our house when I was a boy. They werebrought over by African American servicemen my dad befriended, who were stationed in Germany during the cold war. IE: Are there any comparisons or influences you could share? EE: We hate comparisons. Don’t ever ask Hannah this question, or the interview will be over. IE: Who's the number one top influence on your music (if you had to pick just one), and why? EE: Probably the Otis Redding, The Gypsy Kings, Kraftwerk, orTom Jones. It’s hard to say. IE: Who is Hannah, and what trail are you blazing? EE: Hannah started out with us when she was 6, playing tambourine from her seat in the audience. Of course, Hannah is Hannah Sobiyevski, coming from a long line of Romani royalty. Americans call them ‘Gypsies’. Her parents were huge fanswhen The Trailblazers were just a five piece. They would follow the band to every show in their beautiful vardo (readers: a vardo is the traditional, ornate horse-drawn wagon used by Romani people), hoping to sell a few Trailblazers t-shirts. We’d hear this remarkable tambourine playing coming from the audience, and it quickly became a tradition to invite little Hannah onto the stage each night. Little did we know that she could sing! Today she’s a huge international star. Most people don’t realize this, but Hannah fixed the vocal track on her good friend Adele’s recording ‘Skyfall’ (theme song for the James Bond movie of the same title), just because Adele asked her to – Hannah is that kind of person. What trails? Hmmm. who knows, who knows. IE: What is the best part of touring Europe? EE: The rail system is the best! And of course you can rent a Porsche Carrera for 50 Euros, any day of the week. IE: Give one word to describe/characterize each member of the band (one word/phrase per person). (pictured above, left to right) Richard Pringle (bass guitar) – a proper Brit Justin Biork (guitars, vocals) – fun, fun, fun on the autobahn Ehrich Eberstark (keyboards, horns, woodwinds, vocals) – strong as a boar Hannah Sobiyevski (vocals, tambourine) - the epitome ofhappiness, a positive attitude, and linguistics Cory Renard (drums) – his favorite saying is “The neighbor’s goose always looks better than your duck.” Josh Bettancourt (guitars) – the pride of Portugal, he’s a huge Manchester United fan. Thank you Ehrich for your time, openness, and honesty. We are really looking forward to hearing and seeing you Sunday (6/9) evening at 6:30pm. Look for future artist spotlights right here at ImagineEleven.com. We are excited to showcase Jeremy and Kaci Neely on Sunday June 2nd, 6:30pm. This is like a homecoming for them as Jeremy is originally from Cosby, MO. Read on... Nashville, Tennessee based POP-ROCK DUO NEELY FEATURING THEIR DEBUT ALBUM "EVERYTHING I AM" 2009 PRODUCED BY ZODLOUNGE, MASTERED BY DR ANDREW DAVENPORT May 5th, 2009 - Nashville, TN - Nestled in the heart of Music City Husband-Wife Pop-Rock Duo NEELY, Jeremy and Kaci Neely, emerge with grit and energy that integrate the regions eclectic musical sound scape into an array of hooky lyrics with tight, spine chilling harmonies coupled with a hard hitting backline of musicians, lead guitarist Ryan McClintock, bassist Robert Finnell, and drummer Kenny Schneider that leaves many a crowd screaming for more. The vast musical influences of Jeremy and Kaci came to fruition on their 2008 digital EP, The Zod Archives, released October 21st, 2008. Produced by Zodlounge (Tom Michael, Todd Shay, and Brett Vargason), The Zod Archives encompasses the gritty music of Nickleback, the high-energy vocals of Daughtry, and the potent lyrical wizardry of Lifehouse to create a energetic yet soul-searching offering of Pop-Rock songs that has set the stage for their much anticipated 2009 debut album, Everything I AM. The roots of what is now NEELY began decades ago in the small towns of Cosby, MO and Bennington, KS where both Jeremy and Kaci would record hours of radio broadcasts on cassette tape and pour over the content, honing writing and vocal skills that seeming providence would set on a collision course. The two were married May 5th, 1996, yet it wasn't until the summer of 2000 that they began to explore the extraordinary musical harmony that was fused together. Constantly pursuing excellence in their craft and traveling under other banners, Jeremy and Kaci began to exhibit a quality in their music that began to turn heads in the Central United States. Nearly a decade later, after boiling down to 10 songs pleasing to their ear, Jeremy and Kaci made several journeys to Nashville, TN (which would later become their home) to work with Zodlounge to sculpt out their life's work. With a fusion of creative minds in one room the producers at Zodlounge pulled a musical life and style out of NEELY that many have recognized but that Jeremy and Kaci were reluctant to grasp. Vast musical resources gathered from decades of working with premier touring artists have prepared Zodlounge to produce a world-class record in which they are proud to have their name on as well as present to many of their peers in the music industry. With a simple yet heartfelt approach to scripting songs Jeremy and Kaci have compiled a set of songs that span an array of emotion. From the anthemic "Everything I Am" to driving guitars and vocals on "In The Middle" to the heartfelt cry of affection that pours out of "You and Me" the relentless onslaught of catchy melodies and well crafted lyrics have captivated listeners all over the world. NEELY has spent nearly a decade crafting and honing their skills to pour into the making of Everything I Am and that same skill, experience, and energy is on display in their live performances. |
